How it works

Need a Freelance Copywriter or Content Writer? Here are the six steps we’ll take together to create copy your customers will love.

1) Get in touch

You can contact me by email or via my website. With a few lines about your project, I can give you a very rough idea of what I’ll charge. If we’re in the right ballpark we can get on with the brief.

To create a project brief, I’ll talk with you about your business, your project, an approximate word count (though I don’t charge by the word) and your time frame.

I’ll have lots of questions because the better I understand your offer, the better I can sell it to your customers. I might also send you a quick questionnaire to be sure I have the right information to do a great job for you.

2) Quote

Having listened to your needs, I’ll send you a quote stating how much I’ll charge you for the project.

The total cost will be based on how much research I need to do and a rough estimate of the time it will take me.

A per-project quote, rather than one based on word or time count, means that you’ll know exactly what you’re paying from the outset. The fee won’t change unless the project scope changes significantly.

A project quote includes:
– Research
– Writing the first draft
– Two sets of revisions
– Final proofread

3) Confirmation of project

If the quote works for you, we can go ahead. I’ll send you email confirmation of the project brief, the agreed timeline and the price.

You can see my terms and conditions on the website, and by agreeing to work with me, you agree to my terms and conditions.

I will ask for a 50% deposit before I start work and the final 50% within 14 days of completion.

4) Research

At this point, especially for a bigger project, there may be some more work for me to do on the project brief.

Perhaps you have particular competitors you’d like me to look at, or you have specific customer feedback you’d like me to address.

In any case, this is the point where I really get into the details, researching your business and your audience.

Research is fun as far as I’m concerned (I’m Dr Amy, after all) but my goal is always to find a simple and compelling story that will make your offer irresistible to your customers.

5) The creative bit

Now it’s time to start writing… When I have a first draft together, I’ll send it to you in Word format.

Of course, for bigger projects, I appreciate that you might like to see an initial paragraph or two of copy. Please let me know your preference.

And then it’s over to you for feedback.

Whatever I’m writing about is your baby and I want you to be 100% happy. Constructive criticism and honest commentary will help me to achieve that. The project quote includes two rounds of revisions.

When we reach the final draft, I’ll proofread and check everything’s neat and tidy.

6) Final invoice

Once we’re finished, I’ll send you an invoice for the remaining 50% of my fee. Payment is due within 14 days.
